About Urchin

I strive to make lively, responsive, beautiful boards that give the rider the gorgeous sensation of glide and lift as he or she finds their line.

Urchin Surfboards are a collaboration between surfers, like you, looking for unique riding experiences, hand shaper Christie Carr (me), and the lovely gents at Halifax Glassing. These minds and hands meet to create boards that walk the line between art, innovation, and tradition.

I hand shape every board in my little shed behind the surfboard factory Park Ave in Edgewater, FL. All shapes, unless otherwise noted, are glassed by my amigos who work in the front building at Halifax Glassing. I am now using US Blanks whenever possible as their operation is 100%, and aim to incorporate more nature-based and recycled materials in both glass and foam as those products progress.

I live two lives with one wonderful partner. Pat and I spend 7 months of our years in Punta Banco de Pavones, Costa Rica, where we surf our brains out and run a place called the Yoga Farm. We host guests and workshops, we teach sustainability and permaculture courses, I lead yoga classes en Español, we collect rainwater, build with natural materials, compost all our biological waste, grow perennial fruits, vegetables, and medicines in the landscape, and manage a small veggie garden.

We happily base our lives in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, for 5 months of the year. Urchin Surfboards are made here. When I’m not making surfboards I can be found surfing, painting murals, and growing organic food.
